Marry Morrow Clinic

The Indiana Mustang and Burro Club had a clinic at Spirit of Freedom Farm on Oct. 6-7 featuring Frank Bell certified trainer, Marry Morrow. We had several participants and had a great time! Saturday morning started it off with some groundwork instruction on the "7 steps".

***

Then Marry brought out a few de-spooking tools to play with!

***

We broke for lunch and watched a great demo by Julie Elsner on barefoot trimming. Julie showed us how a horse's foot works and why trimming correctly is so important. She also explained the history of the horseshoe and explained why it is best to leave a horse barefoot if possible.

***

Then back to the arena with our horses for more de-spooking with lots of toys & fun things to do...including having the horses bob for apples!

Sunday started off with a review of the 7 steps and more de-spooking with more toys. Then we mounted and did some riding around & through the obstacles & toys, and did some trail riding simulations to learn how to teach a horse trail riding manners, etc.

***

And more bobbing for apples! Always bringing a smile to everyone!

***

Lunch break was another demo...this one by Mike Grigsby, an equine dentist. He had a horse skull and explained how the jaw is put together and how a horse chews. He then worked on Stormy's teeth while not sedated...Stormy did great! Another very informative and interesting demo! After the demo we were able to go back and play in the arena on our own.

Despite the 90 degree temperatures, everyone had a great time and learned a lot!
Marry will return to Spirit of Freedom Farm again for another clinic May 17 & 18, 2008!
